City Public Library
One of the most beautifully-restored buildings in Opole. It is situated in a noble-looking, 19th-century tenement which masterfully incorporates modern glazing and newspaper-like graffiti featuring quotes by writer and poet Edward Stachura. The building has earned the favour of several juries, including the Regional Development Ministry contest Poland is Getting Beautiful – 7 Wonders of European Funds, in which it placed first in the “Restoration” category, and the Building of the Year 2010 contest organised by an online architecture portal. The Opole library is also a laureate of the Opole Voivodeship Mister Architecture contest.
It is a building that is never empty. It hosts conferences, lectures, meetings with artists, writers and other contributors to culture, as well as artistic evenings, discussions and contests. Regular events hosted by the CPL include the Opole Literary Autumn, the book discussion club, summer holidays at the CPL, Reading to Children Week and a board game convention. In addition to borrowing and reading books, you can explore the media library with its wealth of films to borrow.
